Gas Atomization Spray Drying
Gas atomization type spray drying is to use the speed difference between gas(compressed air, steam or other gases) and liquid material in the subsonic or supersonic range to spray conventional or viscous liquid materials through a special air atomizing nozzle (two-fluid nozzle) into fine mist droplets. The atomized liquid quickly exchanges heat with the drying heat medium, and is dried into powder in a very short time. The mixing of air and liquid can be carried out inside or outside the nozzle, and the liquid with higher viscosity generally chooses the air cap of the external mixing type.
In gas atomization, the mean particle size decreases with increasing gas pressure and liquid flow rate. The pressures used in gas atomisation are generally in the range of 0.7 to 3 MPa.
Gas atomization type spray drying can atomize both low-viscosity materials and high-viscosity materials and liquids, and has a wide range of use. Spray drying simplifies the process, and it can directly turn the solution into a powder product in the drying tower. In addition, spray drying is easy to realize mechanization and automation, reduce dust flying, and improve the working environment.
RELAB provides various types of gas atomizing nozzles, including internal-mixing and external-mixing types, which are widely used in spray drying of various liquid materials. According to the design of the equipment, the working air pressure should be between 2 and 5 bars. The air caps, nozzles, and needles will be recommended by us based on the material being sprayed and the equipment being used.
